An Argentinian man who was captured naked in his garden by Google Street View will receive compensation. Google must pay him the equivalent of nearly 11,000 euros for privacy violations.
A Google Street View camera car captured the naked man in 2017. The images were reportedly taken over a 2-meter-high garden wall. Although the man was captured from behind, it was not difficult to determine his identity. His address was clearly visible.
He then discovered through the news that he was visible online, after which he became the target of ridicule in his neighborhood. He would isolate himself and only leave his house to go to work. The man claims that the situation made him less serious, which complicated his job as a police officer, reports Pagina 12.
“No one wants to be shown naked to the world like a newborn,” the court ruled on Thursday. Because Google makes faces unrecognizable on Street View, the court said the company should also have ensured privacy for a bare bottom.
In 2017, he already sued the media that distributed the images and Google, but without success.
