Hans de Booij will pick up his singing career again. Earlier this year he announced that he would stop because of Long Covid, but the 67 -year -old Annabel singer currently needs financial security. “I can’t live from my AOW alone.”
Although De Booij says that he has no money problems, the finances could form an obstacle for him in the future. “Every month 406 euros is transferred to my account,” he says on Friday in De Telegraaf . “That it would be so little, I hadn’t counted on that.”
According to the singer, it is completely his own fault that he does not get a full AOW. “I led a turbulent life and was in the Netherlands for years of the radar. I lived abroad, was not always easy to trace,” he explains. “That that would have consequences later, I didn’t think about that.”
De Booij was infected with the Coronavirus three years ago and ended up in intensive care, which forced him to end his singing career early this year. “I am not completely recovered after that.” His last concert was just before the New Year in The Hague. “I was really convinced that I would not miss singing.”
But De Booij has started writing songs again in recent months on the Maltese island of Gozo, where he moved to early this year. “Next week I will enter the studio here to record a new song,” he says. “It is the first song of an album that must be ready next spring.”
His health is now doing better. “I am less tired and I notice that my condition is slowly coming back. Whether I will be the old one again, I do not know. I am already happy with the progress I have made in recent months. I now dare to take a comeback.”
