For the past two and a half years, the municipality of Amsterdam received a hundred reports on the road where Lisa was found. In most cases it was bad lighting. The municipality confirms this to NU.nl after research by the AD and Pointer (KRO-NCRV).
Eight out of ten reports came from private individuals. It was mainly about street lamps that had been broken for a long time, making it dark on the Holterbergweg. The other reports came from the municipality itself, via cameras on vehicles that automatically signal defective lampposts.
It also took a long time to repair some broken lanterns. According to the municipality, this is partly due to a capacity deficit with network operator Liander, so there were waiting times. In 2024 it also played that it was raining hard, which led to more defects than usual. Liander then announced that it took longer to resolve it. Simple problems, such as a defective lamp, solves the municipality itself.
A spokesperson for the municipality does put the reports in perspective. There are approximately 160,000 lampposts throughout Amsterdam. Every year there are usually around 20,000 reports about defective lighting. There may be several reports about the same defect.
