Josip Sutalo will not be in action for Ajax for the time being. The defender suffered an ankle injury on Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.
The 25-year-old Sutalo joined Ajax’s training camp in Zeist last week. The Croatian immediately made his first minutes in preparation for the new season on Saturday against Danish Aarhus GF (1-1).
Sutalo was also scheduled to participate in the practice match against PAOK on Wednesday, but he sprained his ankle during training on Tuesday. Seventeen-year-old Aaron Bouwman will take Sutalo’s position against the Greek club.
Sutalo is about to start his third season with Ajax. The 26-time international has so far played 77 official matches for the Amsterdammers, in which he scored four times. He is still under contract for three years at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
In the coming period, Ajax will also practice against KV Mechelen (Saturday), Celtic (July 24) and AS Monaco (August 3). Trainer John Heitinga’s team will start the new Eredivisie season on August 10 with a home match against promoted team Telstar.
