The police officer who chased and hit an eleven-year-old boy in Brussels earlier this month has been arrested. He is suspected of malicious obstruction of traffic resulting in death.

The 24-year-old suspect officer has been fitted with an ankle bracelet. According to De Morgen, he risks a prison sentence of at least twenty years.

The collision occurred last Monday in a park in the Brussels municipality of Ganshoren. The boy was riding an electric scooter for which there is a minimum age of sixteen. After the collision, he was resuscitated and taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

During the chase, the police did not have flashing lights or sirens on, according to the initial investigation by the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office. The police car chased the boy at more than 40 kilometers per hour.

It is not yet clear whether the boy had already fallen before he was hit. However, it is known that he died from head injuries.
