ADO Den Haag has appointed Mark Wotte as technical director on an interim basis on Friday. Wotte is the successor to Joris Mathijsen, who left two weeks ago due to a difference of opinion.
Wotte was previously a player, (youth) coach, head of training and technical manager of ADO. “I would like to serve the club in order to return to the highest level as soon as possible,” says Wotte in a press release.
The 64-year-old Wotte was previously a coach at FC Utrecht, Jong Oranje, Willem II, RKC Waalwijk, Southampton and several national youth teams of Morocco, among others. He was technical director at Feyenoord, among others.
Mathijsen left earlier this month due to tensions with majority shareholder Bolt. Bolt would often overrule Mathijsen’s decisions, including the appointment of a new head coach.
John van den Brom was Mathijsen’s top candidate, but he ultimately did not come to The Hague. After Mathijsen’s departure, ADO decided to work with German coach Robin Peter. Darije Kalezic was at the helm for the past two seasons, but he left after the past season.
ADO was eliminated in the play-offs for promotion in the past two seasons. Peter’s team will start the new Keuken Kampioen Divisie season on August 10. Then the club will play against Willem II in front of their own crowd.
