ADO The Hague and trainer Darije Kalezic apart after missing out promotion

ADO Den Haag has parted ways with coach Darije Kalezic on Saturday. The coach had been in charge of the South Holland club for two seasons.

“First of all, we want to express our gratitude to Darije for everything he has meant for ADO Den Haag in the past two years,” says technical director Joris Mathijsen in a press release.

“Together we have taken professional steps in various areas. As usual, we evaluate after each season and together we have come to the conclusion that it is best for both parties to start the new season with a different head coach.”

Kalezic has been in charge of ADO since 2023. Under his leadership, the Hague club finished fifth and fourth respectively in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. ADO was eliminated a week ago by Telstar in the play-offs for promotion to the Eredivisie.

Earlier, Kalezic had indicated that he only wanted to continue with ADO if the club would have a selection next season to compete for the title in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Now it has come to a farewell. It is not yet known who will succeed Kalezic.

The 55-year-old Kalezic played football for clubs including FC Den Bosch, RKC Waalwijk and De Graafschap, where he also started his coaching career. After that, the Bosnian Dutchman traveled to clubs in the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Indonesia.
