ADO Den Haag chooses young Robin Peter as a trainer in turbulent period

ADO Den Haag hopes to find calmer waters with trainer Robin Peter. The young German was presented on Monday at the Keuken Kampioen Divisie club. He is the successor to the previously departed Darije Kalezic.

The search for a new trainer was, to say the least, difficult. Initially, John van den Brom seemed to be returning as trainer. He was reportedly even already in agreement with technical director Joris Mathijsen, but shareholder Bolt did not approve of his arrival.

Last week, Mathijsen decided to leave ADO. “It has become clear that my vision on the sporting policy no longer aligns with the course that the club currently envisions, resulting in a difference of opinion on substantive matters,” he said.

With Mathijsen’s departure, ADO was without a trainer and technical director. The first vacancy has now been filled with Peter. The 37-year-old coach comes from the Belgian Cercle Brugge, where he had been working as an assistant trainer since March.

Peter was still coach at FC Emmen last season. That was his first job as head coach with the seniors. He left prematurely. Due to disappointing results, it was decided in January, after consultation between both parties, to terminate the collaboration.

ADO had started preparing for the new season under the leadership of Levi Schwiebbe, who was assistant trainer last season. ADO’s first official match is on August 10. Then the club from The Hague will play against Willem II in front of its own fans.
