The A4 towards Amsterdam was reopened on Tuesday evening. The road was closed for hours due to an accident involving two FlixBus buses, carrying 66 passengers. There appear to be no serious injuries.
The two buses collided around 4:00 PM on the A4 near Burgerveen, after which the road towards Amsterdam was closed.
“The buses have been recovered and the road surface has been cleaned,” Rijkswaterstaat reported at 8:00 PM.
In the two buses, both heading towards Amsterdam, there were a total of 66 passengers, according to FlixBus. One bus came from Paris and had 45 passengers on board. The other bus, which came from Zagreb, had 21 people.
The bus from Zagreb collided with the rear of the bus from Paris. The accident likely occurred because fewer lanes were available. Road work is being carried out at the site of the accident, resulting in fewer lanes being open.
Number of people with minor injuries taken to hospital
As far as is known, there have been no serious injuries. A number of passengers sustained minor injuries, says FlixBus. Earlier, a police spokesperson told NU.nl that a number of people had head and neck complaints. A number of people from the bus from Zagreb have been taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Uninjured passengers were transferred from the A4 to their original destinations: Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam-Sloterdijk station, using replacement buses. Local FlixBus teams are currently addressing “the luggage situation” of the passengers.
