Dakota Johnson advocates for more openness and collaboration in the film industry. The actress tells trade magazine Variety that she was shocked by the final result several times at film premieres.
“I’ve had a few premieres where I thought: Wow. This is not what I thought we were making,” says the 35-year-old Johnson. She calls it a “strange experience” and therefore decided to start her own production company a few years ago.
“I want more out of this industry. I want more out of my experience as an artist. I felt such a need for more conversations, more creativity and more collaboration,” says Johnson.
According to the actress, an open working environment works better for everyone on the set. “I think it is important that everyone in the crew knows what we are making so that everyone feels part of it.”
Johnson calls making films “grueling” and “not comfortable,” but the American believes that genuine involvement leads to more job satisfaction and better results. “If you feel like you are genuinely investing in something, people are happier and work better.”
Johnson can be seen later this year in the film Splitsville. Previously, the actress played the leading role in, among others, the Fifty Shades series.
