Annie MG Schmidt Will Be Posthumously Honored with a Writer’s Stone in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. This Gives the Author a Place Among Other Literary Greats Such As Hella Haasse, Anton de Kom and Willem Frederik Hermans.
The Stone Will Be Unveiled on September 28, Shortly Before the Start of the Children’s Book Week. ACTORS WHO Performed Schmidt’s Work Will Be Present at the Ceremony.
The Writer’s Stone Features a Portrait of Schmidt, Made by Fiep Westendorp. The Illustrator is Known for Her Drawings for, Among Others, Jip and Janneke and Pluk van de Petteflet .
The Nieuwe Kerk is Working with Publisher Querido, The Heirs of Schmidt and Westendorp, The Amsterdam Public Library and the CPNB, Organizer of the Children’s Book Week WHICH WHIL Take Place from October 1 to 12 This Year.
Schmidt is Considered One of the Most Important Dutch Children’s Book Writers of the Twentieth Century. She was awarded the Constantijn Huygens Prize and the Hans Christian Andersen Prize, an International Award for Youth Literature.
The Writer’s Stone is Part of A Series in Honor of Leading Dutch Authors. Previously, Louis Couperus, Johan Huizinga, Multatuli, Betje Wolff and Aagje Deken, Among Others, Have Already Received a Memorial Stone in the Church.
