Norris dissatisfied with his own qualification: 'Everyone goes faster and I slower'

Lando Norris was not pleased with his own qualification for the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna on Saturday. The McLaren driver did not get any further than the fourth time. Norris thinks he has made too many mistakes.

“That last round is in no way good enough,” a disappointed Norris told British media on the circuit in Imola. “I have made too many mistakes. Everyone goes faster and I go slower. That is not possible.”

Norris was often better in qualifying last year than his teammate Oscar Piastri and took pole eight times. This season he was overwhelmed by Piastri, who took pole for the third time this season on Saturday. Norris was only the fastest in one round at the opening race in Australia.

“I’m not going to blame the car. It’s not that,” said Norris. “It’s the best car in the field. But if I go for a maximum round, then it just doesn’t work.”

“Many things have changed compared to last year. In my entire career, the qualification has been my greatest quality. But this year it will not work. I am not happy with it, because I want to fight for pole. As it is now, I don’t hear.”

Behind Piastri, Max Verstappen clocked the second time on Saturday. He starts next to the Australian on the first start. Behind it is George Russell next to Norris. The race starts on Sunday at 3 p.m.
