Welcome to the live blog of the final of the Eurovision Song Contest, in which Claude Netherlands represents. My name is Michiel Vos and I will keep you informed tonight of everything that happens in the show. Our reporters Lara Zevenberg and Bas Scharwachter are present in Basel and share their experiences behind the scenes.
“Well, 42 points. That is low,” says Claude on his televoting score. “Of course you want more points anyway.” He said about the high points of the professional jury: “That was cool and very nice. My goal was to reach the final and I was so happy with that. So when I had reached the final, I was already satisfied. The 24-year-old JJ is actually called Johannes Pietsch and was born in Vienna. He grew up in Dubai. The singer participated in the British version of The Voice in 2020. In Germany he tried it at Talenthacht Starmania . He studied at the Vienna Opera School. His Songfestival number Wasted Love is the first song he has officially released. It had achieved six million streams for the final of the Songfestival.
Austria has won the Songfestival for the third time in history. The country was there from the second edition in 1957. This year, JJ was the 57th candidate that the country sent to the Songfestival. The first victory was from Udo Jürgens in 1966. In 2014, Conchita Wurst won with Rise Like a Phoenix . A year later, the Songfestival took place a Vienna. We will hear later this year whether Vienna will also be the organizing city next year.
In a comment, Avrotros said it look back on “a fantastic act” by Claude. “With his disarming personality and connecting power, Claude is the best Songfestival ambassador we could wish for this year,” says a spokesperson.
The broadcaster is also happy that “the measures taken by the EBU have had an effect and that important steps have been taken to also guarantee rest and safety for all artists behind the scenes”. Last year there was a lot of criticism of the atmosphere behind the scenes at the Songfestival.

Look back the moment that Austria wins the Songfestival
The Netherlands finished fifth at the jury, but did not get any further than a shared fifteenth place with 42 points at the televoting. In total, that resulted in the twelfth position on the scoreboard, which is lower than the betting offices expected.
Austria finally finished in fourth place at the televoting. JJ had to continue Israel, Estonia and Sweden. These countries did a lot less well with the jury, so Austria was the winner.
JJ from Austria can sing his winning song again. This time he does not do this with the act with the boat in black and white but standing next to the price he has just won.
