The police have arrested a 33-year-old man for desecration of graves in The Hague in February and March of this year. He is suspected of vandalizing 23 graves at Westduin cemetery.
The police write that it concerns a man without a fixed residence or address. Officers arrested him in Limburg on Wednesday. It is unclear how they tracked the man down.
The suspect may have vandalized multiple graves and urns. As a result, surveillance at the cemetery in The Hague was increased. But in March, graves were vandalized again.
That month, extra police surveillance was deployed around Westduin. Cameras were also installed and the fencing was extended.
Yet it remained a mystery for a long time who had vandalized the graves. The police called on witnesses several times and also asked for people who might have images of the desecration.
