The European Court of Human Rights (Echr) Has Russia Only has to pay compensation for non-Material Damage to the Widow of RTL cameraman Stan Storimans. The Request for Compensation for Loss of Income was Rejected by the Court.
Storimans was Killed in August 2008 by a Russian Rocket Attack in Georgia. Accordance to the court, there is no causal link between his death and the financial damage suffered by the widow.
RTL News Journalist Jeroen Akkermans, Who was SeriOutly Injured in the Attack, Will also not Receive Compensation for Medical Costs, But Will Receive an Amount for Non-Material Damage. The Court Awards The Widow 10,000 euros and Akkermans 13,000 euros.
The Echr accuses Russia or A Lack of Adequate Investigation Into The Attack. The Court also agrees with the earlier conclusion of the Netherlands that storimans was killed in an attack in which only that only russia possesses.
Moscow Refuses to Recognize the Judgments of the Echr and Pay Fines. After the invasion of Ukraine, Russia was Expelled from the Council of Europe, but the country remains response for Violations committed before that date.
In April 2024, Storimans’ Widow and Akkermans also Filed A Report Against Six Russian Soldiers for Committing War Crimes. It is not known when this case will be heard.
