GL-PVDA'er Mei Li Vos succeeds Zorgminister Bruijn as chairman of the Senate

May Li Vos is the new President of the Senate. A majority of the senate voted for the gl-pvda member as successor to Jan Anthonie Bruijn. The VVD Member Resigned From His Chairmanship Last Month to Become Caretaker Minister of Public Health.

Three Senators had Come Forward Who Were Interested in The Chairmanship. In Addition to Vos, these were Tanja Klip-Martin (VVD) and Ilona Lagas (BBB).

After a Meeting Lasting Hours and Subsequent Vote, Vos Received a Majority of the Votes. That happened after two rounds of voting. The First Round of Voting Did Not Reveal a Clear Winner. Lagas decided to withdraw as a candidate after that round of voting.

In The Second Round of Voting, Vos Received 39 Votes. Voting is anonymous, so it is not clear which senators supported her. Klip-Martin Received Support from 33 Senators. Three Senators Abstained from Voting.

The 55-year-old Vos was Already Bruijn’s replacement, who had Been President of the Senate Since 2019. Vos Herself Has Been in the Sate Since 2019.
