Masslaim Due to price increases, variable energy contracts is starting

Six Major Energy Companies Will Receive a Summons Tomorrow Due to the Price Increases in Their Variable Energy Contracts, Accordance to the Consumers’ Association. It Demands Compensation for Customers Who Were Wrongly Charged Higher Rates in the Interim.

This marks the start of the mass claim. The Consumers’ Association has set this up together with association Eigen Huis (VEH) and the Stichting Consumers Competition Claims (CCC). More than 220,000 people have registered.

The Case Focuses on Energy Suppliers Vattenfall, Eneco, Essent, Energiedirect, Budget Energie, and Greenchoice. Together They Serve the Largest Part of Dutch Households.

In a Previous Case Against Vattenfall, The Judge Ruled That Such Increases Are Unlawful. Because other suppliers use the same conditions, consumers can get back up to thousands of euros per household, accordance to the organizations.

Millions of Consumers Have Overpaid for Years, Accordination to the Consumers’ Association. “Sometimes up to thousands or euros per household.” Accordance to a spokesperson, talks with the energy companies have failed, after which a legal procedure was started.

It is not Yet Known When the Case Will Come Before the Court. “Often a Summons Still Leads to a Settlement Before It Becomes A Procedure,” Says the Spokesperson.
