The police made arrests on Thursday evening with a demonstration that got out of hand against an AZC in Doetinchem. In addition, police officers were pelted at the town hall with heavy fireworks. It is unknown how many people have been arrested.
“After a few warnings, the ME intervened and wiped the square in front of the town hall. The ME is still on site to bring the peace back,” the police reported on X.
At the demonstration, Dutch flags were waved. Some those present shouted: “AZC away” and “sieg salvation”. A reporter from ANP saw that measures had been taken at the town hall. For example, the windows of the building were covered on the inside.
The riots took place around a council meeting about an AZC. The intention is that there will be a temporary asylum seekers’ center on Terborgseweg in the Gelderse site. The shelter would be there for a maximum of three years.
