Former Oranje-Held and Penaltykiller Tim Krul (37) ends football career

Goalkeeper Tim Krul put an end to his career on Tuesday at the age of 37. The penalty killer and hero of the Dutch national team at the 2014 World Cup has been without a club for a few months.

“Here it all started, at the age of five, like a boy with big dreams,” Krul writes on X with a photo of him as a youth player of the Hague Amateur Club HVV Ras. “32 years later I am back in the same place. I could not have imagined the rollercoaster that I would experience.”

For his farewell message, Krul returned to HVV Ras to make the circle around. “There are so many memories that cannot be described with words,” he continues in his farewell message. “Thanks for everything. I am grateful forever.”

Krul was active for twenty years as a prof. De Hagenees relocated to Newcastle United at the age of seventeen, where he was under contract for no less than eleven years. He also served Ajax, AZ, Brighton & Hove Albion, Norwich City and Luton Town. At the latter club, its contract expired last summer.

Krul experienced his heyday at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The reserve goalkeeper of the Dutch national team came in the quarterfinals against Costa Rica at the end of the extension within the lines for Jasper Cillessen to keep the penalty series.

In it, Krul grew into hero by stopping two bets and by leading the Netherlands to the semi -finals of the World Cup. The team of national coach Louis van Gaal could not copy that success in the last four. Argentina took the penalties better. Krul then stayed on the couch.
