Iranian diplomats who visit the UN meeting in New York this week will not have access to stores where they can buy luxury goods. The US Department of Foreign Affairs wants to “maximize” the pressure on the spiritual administration of Iran.

“We will not allow the Iranian regime to allow its spiritual elite to shop in New York, while the Iranian people have poverty, a crumbling infrastructure and shortages of water and electricity,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is together with a delegation in the American city. The Iranian diplomats that New York have as a location must now also request permission if they want to buy luxury items of above $ 1,000 (850 euros). This includes watches, electronics, cars and alcohol.
