A Wolf That Jumps about Fences and Kills Livestock Must Be Shot, The Province of Gelderland Argued in Court on Friday. The Province Fears That The Predator Will Teach His Behavior to Other Wolves.
“I’m a bit dizzy,” The Judge Said on Friday after the Arnhem Court had Almost an Hour discussing which fences would or would not be wolf-proof. Both Parties Mentioned Plot Numbers, Dates of Wolf Attacks and Street Names Back and Forth.
On One Side Were the Fauna Protection and Animal Rights. The Two Animal Organizations Disagree With The Decision of the Province of Gelderland (The Other Party) To Have a Wolf Shot. The Province Wants This because Wolf Has Killed Livestock Several Times This Summer That was supposed to be well protected.
Opinions are divided on Whether that livestock was really well protected. The Nets behind which the Sheep Stood Were Too Slack, The Lawyers for the Fauna Protection Argue. There was a step for the fence, making it easy for the wolf to jump about it. And there was not always Enough Power on the Fence.
The Province Acknowledges That the Wolf-proof Measures Were Not in Order Almost Twenty Times. But often Enough to Argue That the Wolf Must Be Shot.

Judge’s verdict is only temporary
The Judge Will Rule on Thursday, October 2, On Who is the Winner of Friday’s YES-NO Game. That Judgment is only temporary. The Animal Organizations Have Asked The Judge for a Preliminary Injunction: A Suspension of the Shooting Permit.
The Fauna Protection and Animal Rights have also objected to the permit with the province. That objection will be deal with in the coming months.
Judge Critical of Trying Out Alternatives
Where the animal organizations were critical of the extent to which the fences meet the wolf-proof requirements, the Judge was a critical of the province for the lack of alternatives.
“You shoot down all alternatives before you have tried them,” The Judge Said. “It feels a bit like going to the dentist and he immediately says: We’ll Pull Your Whole Teeth. I find the problem a little less than Wolves targeting people. We are talking about a protected species.”
The Province had Difficulty Defending Itself Against this. After a number of Attempts, Erik Koffeman of the Fauna Management Unit Finally Said That Wolf “Has Taught himself” To Jump Over A Fence. “By shooting this wolf, we want to prevent him from Being able to pass on that knowledge.”
Fauna Protection Chairman Niko Koffeman (No Relation) Responded that the Wolf is Being Taught “That the Netherlands is an all-you-can-eat restaurant”, Since Most of the Sheep Are Not Well Protected.
It is not a Problem for the Province that the Judge’s Ruling Will Take Another Two Weeks. The Sheep Have Been Moved to Another Location. “So at the moment there are no problems,” Said Erik Koffeman.
