UAE party and Evening Record in GP Montréal: Pogacar gives victory to McNulty

Defending champion Tadej Pogacar had teammate Brandon McNulty win the Grand Prix Cycliste De Montréal on Sunday. The American and Slovenian came together and gave their team UAE Team Emirates a historic 85th seasonal victory.

The UAE team had learned his lesson after the race in Québec on Friday, when early flighter Julian Alaphilippe surprisingly stayed ahead of the peloton. Pogacar’s teammates took the lead early and didn’t let anyone drive away.

Alaphilippe had to release at about 50 kilometers before the line. It also went too fast for Wout van Aert and former winner Michael Matthews. They belonged to the large group of riders who left prematurely.

Moments later it was not Pogacar, but teammate McNulty who demarcated from the thinned peloton. The American was joined by fellow countryman and national champion Quinn Simmons. But Pogacar soon joined, with the Frenchman Louis Barré in Het Wiel.

Pogacar jumped away 23 kilometers from the line itself. Barré and Simmons had to stop the fight, in the end only McNulty could join his teammate. The Uae duo drove laughing and armed to the finish, McNulty was allowed to cross the line just before Pogacar. Simmons finished third one minute later.

85th victory for UAE Team Emirates

McNulty’s victory marks a special milestone for his team. UAE Team Emirates booked no fewer than 85 victories in 2025, an equalization of the record of HTC-Columbia from 2009.

Pogacar itself did a big contribution, including the overall victory and four stages won in the Tour de France. But in the past weeks the counter rose even further.
