Nederlands Handboog duo conquers world title in a new Olympic part

Archers Mike Schloesser and Sanne de Laat became world champion at the compound for mixed teams in the South Korean Gwangju. This is a new part at the upcoming Olympic Games.

The 31-year-old Schloesser and the 30-year-old De Laat took up in Gwangju against Indian couple Rishabh Yadav and Jyothi Surekha. It became an exciting final, in which the Dutch duo won 157-155 against the world record holder.

It is the first world title for mixed teams for Schloesser and De Laat. The two Dutch archers were among the favorites in South Korea. They became European champions last year. Two months ago Schloesser and De Laat won a World Cup in Paris.

At the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, the Compound section is on the Olympic program for the first time. So far, the recurvebog was only shot. The compoundboog is more advanced and has more technical tools.

Schloesser is the number one in the world with the compound. The Limburger is called ‘Mister Perfect’, because in 2015 he was the first shooter to record a perfect score of 600 points. He then shot all his arrows in the middle of the rose. De Laat comes into action a little less often and is partly because of that 72nd on the world ranking.

Both Schloesser and De Laat have never participated in the Games. Gabriela Schloesser-Bayardo, the wife of Mike Schloesser, conquered in 2021 with Steve Wijler Olympic silver in the recurve section for mixed teams.
