The Swiss food company Nestlé has dismissed CEO Laurent Freixe because of a romantic relationship that is not publicly made with a direct subordinate. The company announced this after an internal investigation. Philipp Navratil has been appointed as his successor.
The investigation was led by, among others, chairman Paul Bulcke, with the support of independent external advisers. “This was a necessary decision,” said Bulcke in a statement. “The values of Nestlé are the strong foundations of our company. I thank Laurent for his many years of commitment.”
The new chairman of the Navratil board previously led the Nestlé coffee branch and was responsible for the worldwide strategy of Nescafé and Starbucks. Nestlé, known for brands such as Nespresso, Maggi, Perrier and Kitkat, is the world’s largest food company.
Nestlé is the parent company behind, among other things, the Nescafé coffee brand, chocolate milk Nesquik, water brands Vittel, Perrier and San Pellegrino, ice cream brand Häagen-Dazs and chocolate brands Kitkat, Smarties and Lion.
