Holtby is fully enjoying dream debut at NAC: 'What an evening'

Lewis Holtby enjoyed his dream debut for NAC Breda on Sunday. The triple German international was important in the 2-1 win at Fortuna Sittard with a goal and an assist.

“What an evening,” Holtby told ESPN . The 34-year-old midfielder recently made the switch from Holstein Kiel to NAC transfer free. He previously played for Schalke 04, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham, among others.

“It was a fierce week. Everything went so fast,” the routinier referred to his transfer. “If you can end the week with a victory and you can contribute with a goal and assist, that’s nice.”

“I enjoyed every second: rising from the field for the warm-up to the moment that the audience started singing for me. I am very grateful for this evening. Hopefully we will have a lot of fun this season.”

Trainer Carl Hoefkens labeled Holtby as a “up-to-top professional”. “He has a career that he can already be proud of and he is still busy. He adds a lot of experience to a group of willing football players who want to get better. He can become an important link in that.”

NAC has three points after two games. The Hoefkens team lost 2-0 to Feyenoord last week in De Kuip. NAC will visit Eredivisie leader NEC on Sunday.
