Cycling teams argue with UCI after disqualifications: 'Shocked and disappointed'

The cyclists of visma-lease a bike and four other teams are not allowed to start in the tour de Romandie on Friday. The Reason is a conflict with the international cycling federation uci about the use of a safety system.

The UCI is Testing A Special GPS System In The Tour de Romandie, W and W andWeBy the Location Data of One Cyclist per team is Sent to the Race Management and the Medical Teams. The System Will Be Definitely Introduced at The Upcoming World Cycling Championships in Rwanda (September 21-28).

The Cycling Union took this Measure after The Death of Muriel Furrer at Last Year’s World Cycling Championships in Switzerland. The Eighteen-Year-Old Swiss Woman was Found Lying Unnoticed on the Side of the Road for An Hour After She Fell. She later died in The Hospital.

The Five Teams Refuse to Wear the GPS Tracker because not because to install the Systems on the Bicycle Themselves, Did not want to be response for the system in the event of accidents, and also Did not want to select a Cyclist Themselves. That was Against the Grain of the Uci.

The teams Involved are Therefore Disqualified Before the Start. In Addition to Visma-Lease A Bike, these are Team Picnic PostNL, Lidl-Trek, Canyon-Sram and EF Education-Oatly. Katarzyna Niewiadoma, The Number Three of This Year’s Tour, Has Therefore not started. More Measures May Follow.

UCI Condemns Behavior or Teams

The Uci Has No Good Word for the Teams in A Statement. “It is regrettable that certain teams refuse to joint protect the safety of the riders. The UCI Condemns Their Refusal to Cooperation.”

“The priority of the uci is to Ensure the Safety of the Riders. The Uci is working with the entire cycling family Towards this goal and cooperation with most stakeholders is positive and constructive.”

The Cycling Union Points Out That Some of the Teams Involved Have Been Investing in A GPS System From Velon For Years, which is Similar to the System That the Uci Wants To Use. The teams would be afraid that their investment in it has bone in vain.

The teams say they are “shocked” and “disappointed” by the uci’s decision. They say in a joint statement that they have expressed their support for the test, but that they felt that the uci should take responsibility for selecting the riders and installing the device.

“This action ignores the Rights of Teams and Riders, Applies the Measure in a discriminatory manner and is contrary to the uci’s own commitment to dialogue with stakeholders. We are always at the forefront or make, but throug, this mustgh mustgmggh
