An Amsterdam Student Team is Playing in The Quarterfinals of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. With a Team of Five Robots That Look Like Humans, They Are Playing Football Against Different Countries in the Hope of Winning the World Title. And it might just happen: “Germany is pretty damn good.”
The World Humanoid Robot Games are Being Organized for the First Time. The Tournament is intended to be a child or Olympic Games for Robots. Only Humanoids (Robots That Look Like Humans) Are Allowed to Participate. They box, Run and Dance, Among Other Things, But Football is The Most Important Part.
In recent weeks, Two Student Teams Left for Beijing from the Netherlands: The Dutch Nao Team from the University of Amsterdam and Tech United from Tu Eindhoven. In recent Years, The Eindhoven Team Has Been Master in Robot Football. In the so-called middle size League they Became World Champions Eight Times.
In That Competition The Team Did Not Play With Humanoids, But With Mobile Robots. A child of turrets on wheels with all child or sensors. Tech United is now playing with human robots for the first time and that turns out to be different. Two Preliminary Rounds and Drew Once Lost in Recent Days They Lost. That was not Enough for a Place in the Quarter Finals.
“We should go expected that either,” Says RenĂ© van de Molengraft. As a professor of Robotics at TU Eindhoven, he has bone Involved in Robot Football Since 2005. “This was our first step from mobile robots to humanoids and it was 100 percent successful.”
‘Coming Back Stronger’
Accordance to Van de Molengraft, The Team Has Learned a Lot and Will Return Much Stronger and Better Next Year. “Next year we want to participate in the middle of the pack or just above at the world championship in South Korea,” he says. “The year after that we will be aiming for the top again.”
The TU Eindhoven Team is not very disappointed now either. “We get used to beijing with the intention of learning and playing our first match,” Says Danny Hameeteman. He works at TU Eindhoven as a robotics engineer and supervises students. “This was already QUITE an Achievement for us. Or course you want to win, but we have only leg working in this field for a few months.”
Winning from Human World Champion in 2050
The Robot Football World Has Great Ambitions. In 2050, The Best Humanoids Must Win A Football Match Against The Human World Champion of That Moment. To achieve this, Competitions and Tournaments of this child are set up. Teams Try to Build the Best Robots to Win Each Other, But also Share Knowledge with Each Other After the Matches to Help Advance the Technology.
A lot still needs to happen in the next 25 years. The Robots Are Now Playing On A Smaller Field and the Matches Last Two Times Fifteen Minutes. Duration the break, the Students Can Change Batteries and Make Changes to the Software. The Robots also play five against Five, which should be eleven against eleven anyway.
Quarter Finals in Olympic Stadium
The Amsterdam Dutch Nao Team is Still Fully in the Race in Beijing. This Team Has Been Playing with Two-Leged Robots in Competitions for Years. Exciting matches await them in the coming days. In The Run-up to the Tournament, The Preliminary Rounds Were Played, Now the Team is directly in the Quarter Finals.
“We Are Playing Seven Matches Against Teams From China, Germany, Australia and Singapore,” Says Team Leader Harold Ruiter. “The German Team is Pretty Damn Good, But We Are Doing Our Best.”
The Chinese Organization Has Proviveded the Participating Teams with New Robots, or which the Students Can Adjust the Software As They Wish. “The Robots are Techniquely More Advanced than We are used to,” Says Ruiter. “All kinds of avenues are opening up for us. We had to work for nights to get everything working properly, but so far it has worked out well for us.”
The Quarter Finals Will Be Played in the Olympic Stadium Where Ice Skating Normally Takes Place. “It’s Almost Sold Out,” Says Ruiter. “We have participated in Tournament More Often, but on this scale … we have never experienced this before.”
Human-like robots in Healthcare
Robot Football is not Just Meant As Entertainment. Football is a very dynamic game, Says from the Molengraft. “If you master that, you can also use robots better in the real world. For example, to help people in Healthcare. It is about a robot bee to do what is necessary to complete a task and being able to adapt estuke bees to do to do estehte toe do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do -to -do -do -to -do -do -to -do -do -to -do -to -do -to -do -to -do -to -do -to -do -to -do -to -do -to -do -to -doe Reason, which is a major challenge in robotics. “
The Team From Eindhoven Will Participate in Demo Matches in the Coming Days. Dutch NAO Team Hopes to Reach the Final on August 17.
