Anouk Vetter reports three days after the Dutch title for World Cup Athletics

Anouk Vetter has withdrawn from the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Tuesday. The heptathlete says she has not been able to prepare properly for the global title fight.

“This year I have not been able to do the preparation necessary to perform well at the World Championships. For that reason, I will not start in Tokyo,” Vetter writes on Instagram.

The 32-year-old Vetter became Dutch javelin champion in Hengelo on Saturday. The athlete from Nieuw-Vennep won the national title in this event for the second time with a distance of 55.96 meters.

“Very happy with the series I have put down,” Vetter says. “The past few competitions it was searching, but this weekend it came together nicely.”

Vetter has good memories of Tokyo. In the Japanese capital, the North Hollander won silver in the heptathlon at the 2021 Olympic Games. At last year’s Games in Paris, she withdrew injured after five of the seven events.

At the previous World Championships in 2023, Vetter took bronze in the heptathlon. A year earlier, the 2016 European champion won silver at the global title fight. The upcoming World Championships are scheduled from September 13 to 21.
