Feyenoord records Sheffield United defender Ahmedhodzic day for CL-Duel

Feyenoord has strengthened its squad with Anel Ahmedhodzic on Tuesday. The Bosnian defender arrives from Sheffield United and signs a contract in Rotterdam until the summer of 2029.

It is unknown how much Feyenoord paid for the 26-year-old Ahmedhodzic. The club is doing everything to get him eligible to play for the third qualifying round of the Champions League against Fenerbahçe. Feyenoord says it is receiving good help from the KNVB.

“Things have gone incredibly fast in recent days,” says Ahmedhodzic on the Feyenoord website. “I couldn’t be happier. The fact that I can now play for such a large, European club is something I have always worked very hard for.”

Feyenoord was looking for defensive reinforcements after the departure of Dávid Hancko and the serious injury of Thomas Beelen. Earlier this summer, the Rotterdam team strengthened with center-back Tsuyoshi Watanabe, who came from KAA Gent. Gernot Trauner is still recovering from an injury.

Due to the timely completion of the transfer, Feyenoord may still be able to register Ahmedhodzic for the double-header with Fenerbahçe. Registration closes the evening before the first match at 0.00 am. The Rotterdam team will kick off on Wednesday at 9:00 PM in De Kuip, after which the return match will take place in Turkey next week.

Ahmedhodzic began his professional career at Nottingham Forest, after which he moved to Malmö FF. In 2022, Sheffield United took him over from the Swedish club. The 1.90 meter tall Ahmedhodzic played 114 games for the English team, including 31 games in the Premier League.
