Go Ahead Eagles sells seasoning Antman for record amount to Rangers

Go Ahead Eagles has sold playmaker Oliver Antman to Scottish top club Rangers FC on Monday. The club from Deventer will receive a record amount of up to 6 million euros.

The 23-year-old Antman was already missing from the Go Ahead Eagles squad on Sunday for the battle for the Johan Cruijff Shield, which was lost 2-1 against national champion PSV. The Finnish international passed the medical examination in Glasgow on Monday and has signed for four years.

Antman was one of the key players last season in the historic season of Go Ahead Eagles. With six goals and seventeen assists, the right winger made an important contribution to the first cup win ever and the sixth place in the Eredivisie.

Following Enric Llansana (Anderlecht) and trainer Paul Simonis (VfL Wolfsburg), Antman aroused considerable foreign interest. The former player of FC Groningen played only one year for Go Ahead Eagles, which retains a significant profit. Last year, Antman came over from the Danish club FC Nordsjaelland for 1.2 million euros.

Never before has Go Ahead Eagles received so much money for a player. The old sales record was held by Willum Thór Willumsson. The Icelandic attacker moved to Birmingham City last year for 4 million euros.

Due to the transfer, Antman is trading an upcoming adventure of Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League for a possible stay in the Champions League. Rangers still have to survive the qualifications. The Scottish club plays in the third preliminary round against Viktoria Plzen from the Czech Republic. Antman is missing in those duels because the registration for it has already expired.
