The large fire that broke out in a warehouse in Vessem, North Brabant, on Sunday evening is under control. The warehouse contains 2,000 liters of diesel. Thousands of chickens in an adjacent chicken coop have died in the fire.
The Brabant-Zuidoost Safety Region reported on Sunday evening that fires were raging in two buildings. The fire in the warehouse with diesel was extensive. Another building on the same site is also completely on fire, although the flames are not spreading there.
The warehouse where the diesel is stored is approximately 300 square meters in size. The building does not have solar panels, according to the safety region.
According to the Safety Region, thousands of chickens have died in the fire, because an adjacent stable was also affected. In total, there are about nine thousand chickens on the site, spread over two chicken coops. The second stable was preserved by the fire brigade. According to Eindhovens Dagblad, there were three thousand chickens in the affected stable.
The fire was under control around 1:30 AM, but it continued to be extinguished for several hours.
