Minke Bisschops became Dutch champion in the 100 meters on Saturday in a lightning-fast time. The Landgraaf sprinter ran a time of 11.05 seconds in Hengelo, the second-fastest Dutch time ever.
The 22-year-old Bisschops won with a legal tailwind of 1 meter per second. The Limburg runner left Nadine Visser (11.17) and Marije van Hunesteijn (11.33) behind her.
Bisschops takes over second place on the list of fastest Dutch times ever from Nelli Cooman, who clocked a time of 11.08 in 1986. The Dutch record has been held by Dafne Schippers since 2015 with 10.81.
With her top time, Bisschop also met the limit for the World Athletics Championships, which will be held in Tokyo from September 13 to 21. She had already secured participation in the World Championships in the 200 meters.
Mo-Ajok equals Dutch record, but time is not recorded
In the men’s event, Xavi Mo-Ajok was the strongest in the 100 meters. The 22-year-old athlete equaled Churandy Martina’s Dutch record from 2012 with 9.91, but his time is not recorded because there was too much tailwind (2.9 meters per second).
Nsikak Ekpo also dipped under ten seconds with 9.95. The bronze went to Taymir Burnet with 10.01. Defending champion Elvis Afrifa withdrew from the 100-meter final with hamstring problems after running 9.97 in the semi-finals.
Earlier in the day, Kellynsia Leerdam won gold in the triple jump with a Dutch record. The 23-year-old athlete equaled Brenda Baar’s fourteen-year-old Dutch record with 13.51 meters.
Femke Bol will only run one final on Sunday at the Dutch Championships. The Amersfoort runner will compete in the 200 meters, in which she won bronze last year.
