Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies discover tampering with military purchases

The anti-corruption agencies of Ukraine claim to have uncovered a corruption case in which the price of military purchases was systematically inflated for personal gain. The agencies NABU and SAPO report arrests in connection with contracts for the purchase of military drones and signal jammers.

The services stated on Telegram on Saturday that they had caught, among others, a parliamentarian, two local officials, and members of the National Guard.

Exorbitant prices were displayed in contracts for drones. Those involved pocketed up to 30 percent, according to the agencies NABU and SAPO after an investigation. The suspects allegedly skimmed money throughout 2024 and a large part of this year.

The investigating agency NABU and the prosecuting agency SAPO have recently regained their independent status. President Volodymyr Zelensky suddenly revoked it a week and a half ago and placed authority under the prosecutor-general appointed by him. The move led to large demonstrations in Ukraine and angry reactions in the EU. The legislative amendment was reversed on Thursday.
