Long traffic jams on Black Saturday, three hours of delay between Lyon and Spain

It is Black Saturday on European roads, which also means long traffic jams for Dutch holidaymakers. According to the ANWB (Dutch Automobile Association), the peak of the congestion will be between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.

Motorists on the French Route du Soleil are experiencing up to three hours of delay between Lyon and the Spanish border, reports an ANWB spokesperson. Routes through central France are also busy, for example on the A71 near Clemont Ferrand and near Bordeaux. In total, there are over 1,000 kilometers of traffic jams in the country.

On the Tauernroute in Austria, the delay is up to two hours, especially between Salzburg and Villach. For the Gotthard Tunnel in Switzerland, the waiting time is now over an hour in the southern direction, although that is “not unusual” according to the ANWB. The Mont Blanc Tunnel connecting France with Italy is causing seventy minutes of delay.

According to the ANWB, the traffic congestion in Germany is also “getting into full swing”. “We see that it is very busy on the usual routes”. On the A7 towards Hamburg, one can expect a delay of about an hour and a half. It is also congested in the south near Stuttgart and Munich.

The routes to Slovenia and Croatia are also not spared from traffic jams. “We see that more often in recent years,” reports the ANWB.
