Djokovic and former F1 drivers become co-owner football club Le Mans

Novak Djokovic becomes co-owner of the French football club Le Mans FC. The Serbian tennis legend has taken a minority stake in the club. Former Formula 1 drivers Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen are also becoming co-owners.

It is unknown for what amount the three have bought into Le Mans, which was promoted to the second level last season. The investment of the three (former) athletes is part of a deal by the Brazilian investment company OutField with the French club.

Reportedly, the link between Djokovic and OutField is the Greek Georgios Frangulis. He is the boyfriend of top tennis player Aryna Sabalenka and, as CEO of food brand OakBerry, is also involved in the investment. Frangulis is also a good friend of Massa.

Le Mans FC is delighted with the arrival of the three. “Djokovic, the most successful tennis player ever, can be of great value with his mental strength and unique approach,” the club said in a statement. “Massa and Magnussen can help create a bridge between football and motorsport.”

It is unlikely that Djokovic will actually interfere with the daily affairs at Le Mans. The Serbian still hopes to win his 25th Grand Slam title, which would give him the record for most Grand Slam titles alone.

Magnussen drove in Formula 1 for Haas last season, but is now without a team. Massa has been retired for some time. The city of Le Mans is known for its connection with motorsport: the 24 hours of Le Mans is raced there.
