Feyenoord sells seasoning Paixão for 30 million euros to Marseille

Feyenoord has sold playmaker Igor Paixão to Olympique Marseille. The French top club reportedly pays more than 30 million euros for the Brazilian attacker.

Feyenoord announced the transfer on Friday evening via the club website. Olympique Marseille has not yet reported anything about the arrival of Paixão. Marseille finished second in the French league last season, behind national champion Paris Saint-Germain. Paixão is one of Marseille’s most expensive purchases ever.

Feyenoord acquired Paixão in the summer of 2022 for 4.5 million euros from the Brazilian Coritiba, where he had also completed his youth training. He signed for five years at the time. That contract was extended by two years in the interim.

Especially last season, Paixão impressed at De Kuip. He scored sixteen goals, making him second in the top scorers ranking, behind Sem Steijn. Paixão became national champion with Feyenoord in 2023 and won both the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Shield with the club a year later.

With the sale of Paixão, Feyenoord has completed another top transfer this summer. Earlier this month, the club sold Dávid Hancko to Atlético Madrid for 30 million euros. Antoni Milambo also moved to Brentford for 20 million euros. Fifteen players have already left De Kuip.

Feyenoord has already significantly strengthened itself in the transfer market with, among others, the Malian attacker Gaoussou Diarra (Istanbulspor), the Danish striker Casper Tengstedt (Benfica) and the Portuguese striker Gonçalo Borges (FC Porto). In addition to Diarra, Feyenoord has two more left wingers under contract with talents Leo Sauer and Aymen Sliti.
