NU.nl reported earlier that a hundred -year -old woman had lived homeless in Tilburg for three years. According to the municipality, that is not correct.
It is certain that the very elderly woman has recently been staying in an Amsterdam care home. However, her situation for that seems different than previously sketched. In earlier reports it seemed like she was roaming Tilburg for three years without looking after aid organizations to her.
The municipality of Tilburg does not recognize that image. Normally, due to privacy reasons, the municipality is reluctant to share data about individual citizens, but an exception is made to this. “She didn’t live on the street for a day,” a spokesperson told Nu.nl when asked.
According to the municipality, the woman did not roam around in Tilburg for three years, but spent a while abroad. Sources tell the Brabants Dagblad that she was staying in Morocco. The Assadaaka Community, who previously reported that the woman had found a home, confirms that. After her departure from the Netherlands, she was deregistered at the municipality of Tilburg, and she got out of sight. It is not known why she left for Morocco and how long she stayed there. After her return to the Netherlands, she probably stayed with family, but that would not have been a sustainable situation.
Assadaaka founder Ahmed El Mesri says that he was alerted by people in Tilburg to the “difficult situation” where the woman was in after her return. He then rang the bell at the municipality. The municipality does not want to say anything about this, although those involved say that Assadaaka was indeed one of the parties who made a report about the woman.

“I am especially happy that Mrs. has managed to get a good home,” El Mesri concludes.
