Children and dogs are better off avoiding Bos Utrecht after possible new incident with wolf

Landgoed Den Treek on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug advises people to no longer come to the area with children and dogs. On Wednesday there was another incident with presumably a wolf.

It is not clear what exactly happened on Wednesday morning. According to a spokesperson for the province of Utrecht, there was a biting incident at the Pyramide van Austerlitz, near Zeist.

It is suspected that a wolf bit someone, but to be sure, DNA was taken. The province is having the DNA sample analyzed with urgency.

Landgoed Den Treek therefore advises on Wednesday to avoid the area for the time being with dogs and children. The province of Utrecht advises to keep dogs on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug on a short leash, to stay on the paths, and not to let children up to ten years old go into the forest alone.

In May, a woman was bitten by a wolf on the estate. The wolf was also involved in incidents last year, including with a child. As a result, the province of Utrecht decided to kill that wolf. Animal organizations objected to this, but the judge gave permission last week to shoot the animal.

A week later, the wolf has not yet been killed. On De Hoge Veluwe, a wolf may also be shot after a biting incident. The predator has been searched for there in vain for two months. You can read below why it is so difficult to shoot a wolf.
