The long-awaited film about the life of singer Madonna is still in development, confirms Julia Garner. “Everything that is great takes a long time,” says the 31-year-old American actress, who will play the lead role, in the podcast SmartLess.
Garner knew immediately that she had to audition when she heard about the film, she says. “I just wanted to see if I could do it. I had to learn to dance and sing. Then I had to show it to Madonna and convince her.”
The film, with the working title Who’s That Girl, is being written and directed by Madonna herself.
Universal Pictures temporarily stopped the project in 2023 due to Madonna’s Celebration Tour. It is not yet known when the filming of the film will begin. In addition to Garner, no other cast members have been announced.
