Playground in Voorburg open again after 23 infections with norovirus

The playground in Voorburg that closed last month because 23 children became ill after visiting will reopen on Monday afternoon. The children were likely infected with the norovirus after playing with a water feature.

Speeltuin Opa’s Veldje will be fully reopened to visitors, the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg told the ANP. Only the water feature was still closed, but children can play with it again.

GGD Haaglanden has not found any pathogens in the playground. There is also no reason to assume that the norovirus is still present. “Noroviruses do not survive well in the open air,” the municipality reports. “After two weeks of closure of the water feature, there is no reason to assume that the virus is still present.”

The playground closed earlier this month after at least 23 children became ill. It was presumably the norovirus, a highly contagious stomach flu virus. The children had mild symptoms, including short-term stomach and intestinal complaints.
