While Max Verstappen was critical of the FIA after the Grand Prix of Belgium, racing winner Oscar Piastri showed understanding for the race management. The race in the Ardennes was postponed for a long time, because according to the FIA, the track was too wet to racing.

The Grand Prix of Belgium started eighty minutes later than planned because of the rain. The FIA concluded during the warm -up round that it was too wet, after which the red flag was waved.
The race then started behind the Safetycar after five warm -up rounds. According to Verstappen, the red flag had not been necessary and the race could have started immediately. Piastri did not agree.
“If you are critical, we might have been able to do one formation round less,” continued the World Cup leader. “But if it is one round too early, you also have to wonder if that is worth the risk. And it is not.”
‘Rather choose safety than restarting too early’
At the press conference, Piastri received support from both number two Lando Norris and number three Charles Leclerc. Leclerc referred to heavy crashes that took place on Spa in the past. “On a circuit like this, with what happened here in the past, you can’t forget that,” said the Ferrari driver.
“That is why I prefer to opt for safety than restart for too early. But it remains a difficult discussion. We will probably tell the people who took this decision that it might be a bit late, but I would not have done it myself.”
Piastri caught up with teammate Norris in the opening round and then drove to the victory in a little -raising competition. Verstappen crossed the finish line fourth.
