Tadej Pogacar secured his fourth Tour de France victory on Sunday. The Slovenian also made his mark on the final stage to Paris, but had to concede to Wout van Aert. This marks a positive end to the Tour for Visma-Lease a Bike.
The final stage to the Champs-Élysées included a novelty. The cobbled climb to Montmartre was included three times in the finale. This change provided some spectacle.
After a barrage of breakaways and attacks, six riders remained at the front. Van Aert and Pogacar were accompanied by Matej Mohoric, Davide Ballerine, Matteo Jorgenson, and Matteo Trentin. The decision came 7 kilometers from the finish.
Pogacar tried to shake off his five colleagues on the last climb of Montmartre, but was outdone by Van Aert. The Belgian from Visma-Lease a Bike dropped the Slovenian world champion and soloed to his tenth Tour stage victory.
Meanwhile, Pogacar was already assured of his fourth overall victory, as no time differences were recorded due to the rain-soaked roads. The leader of UAE Team Emirates stood out for three weeks. His lead over number two Jonas Vingegaard is 4.24 minutes.
