Michail Antonio marked his return to West Ham United’s reserves on Saturday with two goals. The Jamaican, who broke his leg seven months ago in a serious car accident, scored in the 1-4 practice match won against Boreham Wood.
35-year-old Antonio crashed his Ferrari in Essex, a county northeast of London, last December. He was reportedly trapped in his car for almost an hour before being freed by emergency services.
Antonio was taken to the hospital in critical condition. There, his condition stabilized and he was soon able to communicate again. However, it turned out that the winger had fractured his thigh.
Last month, Antonio already played a few minutes for Jamaica at the Gold Cup. With the reserves of West Ham, the 24-time international started in the base and participated for one half. In it he scored twice.
It is noteworthy that Antonio is no longer under contract with West Ham. His contract expired this summer and the London club did not want to simply extend the contract of the attacker, who reportedly earns more than 100,000 euros per week. Therefore, he was given the chance to prove himself against Boreham Wood.
Antonio played 323 games for West Ham United in ten years. In it he scored 83 goals and gave 42 assists.
