The Indian Football Association AIFF has been fooled by remarkable applications from Xavi and Josep Guardiola for the position of national coach. The AIFF reports on Saturday in a statement that the emails were fake.
“The AIFF received emails with Josep Guardiola and Xavi Hernández applications. The authenticity could not be verified, but now it appears that the applications were fake by e -mail,” writes the football association on the website.
Earlier this week, technical director Subrata Paul announced that Xavi had shown interest in the position of national coach. The 45-year-old Spaniard, who left last May as a trainer of FC Barcelona, was not even invited for an interview.
The AIFF stated that Xavi is simply far too expensive to capture. “It is true that Xavi responded to the vacancy from his e-mail address,” the union said. “But even if the interest is sincere and we could convince him, he would still cost too much money.”
A fake application was also sent in the name of Manchester City trainer Guardiola. Employees of the Indian football association immersed themselves in the emails and concluded that they had been fooled.
India has been looking for a new national coach since the beginning of July and put a public vacancy online. In the meantime, 170 applications have arrived. The Asian country has never qualified for a World Cup and can no longer qualify for the global title fight in 2026.
