French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte filed an indictment in the United States on Wednesday for defamation against the right -wing American influencer Candace Owens. Among other things, she would have claimed that Brigitte is a man.
In the indictment, the macrons claim that Owens conducts a campaign of “worldwide humiliation” and “bullying” against them to promote her own platform and collect more followers. They demand compensation, although the amount is unknown.
In her eight-part Becoming Brigitte series, Owens would have claimed that Brigitte was born under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux, which in reality is the name of her brother. She also claimed that the macrons are blood relatives and that the president would be involved in a “secret CIA program” that conducts experiments to control people.
“Every time the macrons leave their house, they do with the knowledge that countless people have heard these lies and many they also believe,” says the 218 -page indictment.
The macrons lawyer tells The Financial Times that Owens has been asked several times to withdraw her statements. Because she kept repeating her claims, the lawyer found a lawsuit “inevitable”.
