Lindt & Sprüngli has had to make its chocolate almost 16 percent more expensive to compensate for the high cocoa costs. The Swiss chocolate maker speaks of a successful first half-year despite a turbulent market.
Cocoa prices are rising to record highs, Lindt & Sprüngli writes about the performance in the first half of 2025. To make up for this, the prices of Lindt’s products also had to increase. Partly due to these price increases, the Swiss company saw its turnover increase by 9 percent to 2.4 billion Swiss francs (2.6 billion euros).
The quantity of products sold, such as pralines and chocolate bars, did decrease by 4.6 percent due to the price increase. But CEO Adalbert Lechner is enthusiastic about the innovation with Dubai chocolate and indicates that he is proud of the company’s performance in the first six months of 2025.
Companies such as Tony’s Chocolonely are also suffering from the rapidly rising cocoa prices. The disappointing harvests in Ghana and Ivory Coast in 2024 caused prices to rise rapidly. In December, the price of a ton of cocoa exceeded 10,000 dollars (about 9,450 euros). Last month it was announced that chocolate prices in the United Kingdom were 18 percent higher than a year earlier.
