Qatar is bidding to host the 2036 Olympic Games. The country now considers itself ready to organize the world’s largest sporting event.
“The official candidacy of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a new milestone in Qatar’s history,” says Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“The bid builds on Qatar’s proven track record of successfully hosting major international sporting events. The 2022 FIFA World Cup in particular stands out. It is widely regarded as the best edition in the history of that tournament.”
Should Qatar be chosen, it would become the first country in the Middle East to host the Olympic Games. The 2028 Summer Olympics are in Los Angeles and the 2032 Games are in Brisbane.
Qatar faces stiff competition in the race to host the 2036 Games. Germany, Turkey, South Korea, India and Indonesia, among others, have formally applied or expressed their interest.
