Tadej Pogacar is not afraid that he will give away his spacious lead in the Tour de France in the final week. Nevertheless, the geltherager thinks that the course will not be in his favor in the coming days.
In the last Tour week, the riders will receive the Mont Ventoux (Tuesday) and Col de la Loze (Thursday) for the wheels. On both climbs, Pogacar was already unloaded in the past by his great rival Jonas Vingegaard.
Pogacar mainly keeps bad memories of the Col de la Loze. In 2023 he lost no less than five minutes on the Alpenreus, with which the Tour was definitely in favor of the Deen of Visma-Lease a Bike at the time.
“I almost dare to say that the course was made scared,” Pogacar said on Monday with a broad grin at an online press conference. He is not afraid that the trauma will continue to chase him. “They were different race situations. I actually like all these climbs.”
“The Col de la Loze is one of the toughest climbs I have ever done,” continued the 26-year-old Pogacar. “I am not looking forward to revenge. I just want better legs than then.” Pogacar said he has never had such a bad day on the bike as in 2023 on the Col de la Loze.
Pogacar think Tour has not yet been decided
Pogacar can trust the closing week from the climb of the Hautacam earlier in this Tour de France. In 2022 he lost more than a minute on the Pyreneescol, this year he drove that demon from the past by winning more than two minutes on his rival.
Partly because of this, Pogacar has a spacious four -minute lead and thirteen seconds on number two Vingegaard in the general classification. It must go crazy the Slovenian does not win the Tour de France for the fourth time.
Yet Pogacar thinks that the battle has not yet been decided. “Jonas is in a good shape, we saw that in the time trial and yesterday towards Superbagnères. He flew over the climb. But I just have to keep my focus, eat good food and sleep well. I am ready for a fight with everyone, especially with Jonas.”
That battle between Pogacar and Vingegaard will be resumed on Tuesday with a ride to the top of Mont Ventoux. The stage starts at 12.40 in Montpellier. The first riders arrive at Mont Ventoux around 5 p.m.
