Massive Attack and other artists unite in criticism of army Israel

Massive Attack, Kneecap, Fontaines D.C., Brian Eno, and other artists have collectively spoken out against Israel’s military actions in Gaza. They claim they are being intimidated by, among others, the advocacy organization UK Lawyers for Israel (UKFLI).

“We are witnessing aggressive and malicious campaigns waged by UKLFI. These are purely intended to censor and silence artists, preventing them from speaking freely about what is in their hearts and minds,” the bands write on Instagram.

“We are writing this as artists who have chosen to use our public platforms to speak out against the genocide taking place in Gaza and the role of the British government in facilitating it.” The Irish and British artists are calling on others to join them.

In addition, they share a list of demands. These include “immediate and unfettered access to Gaza” for emergency services, a permanent ceasefire, and a halt to the supply of weapons to Israel.

Kneecap has been in the news in recent months due to pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli statements. Band member Mo Chara has been charged with terrorism in the United Kingdom for waving a flag of the military movement Hezbollah during a performance.

Several performances by the Irish rap group were canceled. According to the British newspaper The Guardian, this followed actions by the UKLFI.
