Saturday will be tropically warm in the east, with temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. In the rest of the country, it will be summery warm, with temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius. From Sunday onwards, the summery heat will be over for the time being.
Saturday will remain largely dry and warm, with higher temperatures in the east. In the center and south, a small shower may fall locally. “But that doesn’t amount to much yet,” says meteorologist Wouter van Bernebeek from Weerplaza to NU.nl.
On Sunday, more rain showers and thunderstorms will move over the country from the south. “Locally, it can be quite rough, with a lot of rain in a short time. But these are not the scenes from two weeks ago,” says Van Bernebeek. Then code orange was in effect due to severe thunderstorms in Overijssel, Gelderland and Limburg.
The showers ensure that the temperature is a lot lower. These lower temperatures will persist for the rest of the month, with temperatures averaging 20 to 23 degrees Celsius. With that, the summer heat seems to be over for the time being. “I don’t think we’ll see stable summer temperatures again this month,” says Van Bernebeek.
The drought in the Netherlands is not too bad this year, especially compared to a few years ago. Then, according to Van Bernebeek, there was extreme drought. Due to the rain that is expected in the coming period, there are no major concerns about this. “In the northeast, the drought is not too bad anyway. The southwest is a bit more affected. But it is not exceptionally dry.”
